Why Did I Chose Computer Science As My Gold Award Topic?
In a constantly evolving world, Computer Science is a prevalent field in today's society. The need for jobs in computer science is constantly growing and yet there is not enough interest in the field to fill those jobs. As a Girl Scout working on my Gold Award, I took note of the problem and tried to think of ways in which I could incorporate computer science into a project to benefit younger children. That's when I realized that I could help elementary students in my community develop a passion. In order to address this situation, I organized an interactive day for students to learn about the basics of computer programming and to discover how a programmer has to think in order to put together various apps and games.
Hi! My name is Elizabeth Moody and I'm a Girl Scout in troop 605. I've been a member of troop 605 for over ten years, and I chose to work with Tuckahoe Elementary, Three Chopt Elementary, and Ridge Elementary school on a project to earn my Girl Scout Gold Award. After extensive planning, I came up with the idea to teach elementary students about computer science because it is a topic that everyone should have knowledge on. I wanted to make an impact on my community by sharing my knowledge with others because computer science has played a large role in shaping who I am. I've been a member of my school's Technology Club for Girls since I was a sophomore and I am the president-elect for the upcoming school year. As a result of how far computer science has taken me, I am spending the summer in California to broaden my knowledge at the Twitter Headquarters in San Francisco. I hope to share my love for this subject with others to create a common passion.
